The Amashova is one of the safest but toughest and most gruelling cycling events, known as the Amashova National Classic in South Africa.
Dubbed the safest cycle race in KwaZulu Natal, the annual Amashova National Cycle Classic was held in 1986, for the first time. The 106km road race follows a similar route to that of the Comrades Marathon, although a shorter 38km fun ride and 65km Half Challenge is also on offer. In 2024 a 132km from the Nelson Mandela Capture Site was added to the stable of events. Held during winter, Durban has the best weather in South Africa at this time of year , the race starts in Pietermaritzburg and ends in Durban at Suncoast.
