TFG Data Science and Leadership Fellowship Overview:

  • The Data Science and Leadership Fellowship covers the costs for the first two years of pursuing a Master’s
  • Degree in Data Science at designated Tier One South African public universities.
  • Candidates can opt for either a research or coursework format for their Master’s Degree.
  • Selection criteria include exceptional academic performance, as well as demonstrated innovation, creativity, and leadership skills.
  • The opportunity is open to all South Africans, but preference will be given to candidates from underrepresented communities.

Research or coursework Master’s Degrees in Data Science or equivalent qualifications in related fields.

TFG Data Science and Leadership Fellowship Scholarship Includes:

  • Tuition fees
  • Living and meal allowances
  • Provision for necessary equipment
  • Attendance at a special event hosted at the TFG Head Office in Cape Town

TFG Data Science and Leadership Fellowship Selection Criteria:

  • Bursary selection is primarily based on academic potential, financial need, and chosen study programs.
  • Bursaries cater to various educational levels and institutions:
  • The majority are for full-time University students (both undergraduate and post-graduate) enrolled in critical and scarce skills programs.
  • A limited number are allocated for full-time University of Technology students, meeting specific academic criteria, pursuing careers in demand by the labor market.
  • A few bursaries are designated for full-time students at Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Agricultural Colleges.
  • Applicants must provide detailed information, including the exact study program name, educational institution, and the start and end dates of the program.

Required documents:

  • South African ID (certified copy)
  • Comprehensive academic record, including the most recent results (June 2024 examination results or progress report)
  • Official Matric/NSC results for Grade 12 graduates or final Grade 11 results and June 2024 report card for current Grade 12 students.
  • Proof of address (required for bursaries sponsored by renewable energy plants or trusts, applicable only to applicants residing within a 50 km radius of a solar or wind farm)
  • Proof of income: Verification of combined annual household income is crucial. Provide documentation for both parents (if applicable), including:
  • Salary or wage slips
  • Affidavit if unemployed or self-employed (including annual income details if self-employed)
  • Most recent audited financial statement or three months’ bank statements for business owners
  • SASSA letter indicating household grants (if applicable)
  • Death certificate(s) in case of deceased parent(s)
  • Court letter for child support amounts (if parents are divorced) or affidavit if separated
  • Clear head and shoulders picture.
